Greg Stare Greg approaches percussion from a post-tribal-afro-thrash-dance perspective as he blends the abstract with the booty shakin'. He was born in San Francisco and grew up in Chino, CA and enjoys leading this band. He is fond of his time in Cuba where he studied and drank rum with Clave Y Guaguanc� and Los Mu�equitos de Matanzas. In the States, Greg has had the privilage of studying with Angel Figueroa, Long John Oliva, Lazaro Gallaraga, Luca Brandoli, Greg Field, George Delgado and Joey Baron. He has also played in a variety of jazz, salsa, afro beat, rock and funk bands in LA and NYC and has performed at the Los Angeles Cuban Festival and the Kuumba Festival in Knoxville, TN. He is delighted to have worked with Victor Rendon, Clemente Ruiz, Long John Oliva, Billy Bang, William Parker, Daniel Carter, and with bands such as, Light, Fireball, Ras Moche's Liberated Zone, The Walter Thompson Orquestra, One Ring Zero, Las Rubias del Norte, and Antibalas. Greg's hobbies include, riding 70 year old Cubans on bikes through Havana, writing patriotic love poems, dancing the night away at the Hotel D'orsay, collecting merengue posters, driving vintage Volkswagens dressed as a clown, riding mechanical bulls, and skateboarding. |
