Welcome to America's British Reliability Run!

Want to drive your vintage British car and help raise money to help children battling disease or coping with blindness? Then register to take part in the fifth annual America's British Reliability Run. Don't have a car or live to far away to participate? That's OK, you can still support our effort by making a donation, however small, to this year's children's charity.

In 2006 we raised more than $23,000 for children battling diabetes, now we're at it again, and even better! On October 6-7th, 2007, up to 50 vintage British cars will depart Massillon, Ohio for a demanding 800-mile run through Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky to raise money for children's charities. And, on the same day, another 50 cars will depart Janesville, Wisconsin for a comparable run through Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan! The run, called "America's British Reliability Run," is an endurance run of sorts, and it always benefits children. The event is based loosely on several events held each year in Britain with the same goal: to help a worthy children's charity and have fun while doing so.

This year, we're dedicated to helping two very highly rated and worthwhile charities: for the Wisconsin run, The Center for Blind and Visually Impaired Children, and for the Ohio run, the Columbus chapter of Adventures for Wish Kids.

This year's runs features some of the country's best roads on which to drive a sportscar. In fact, both Automobile Magazine and Car and Driver test cars for review on these very roads! It's not a race, it's merely a test of the drivability of our old cars.

Goal for the Teams

Each team's goal is to raise $500 to help this year's partner charity continue their mission. It's through fundraising efforts such as this that those kids are able to get to camp. We've raised more than $100,000 to help kids battling diseases such as cancer, diabetes and hemophilia. This year we're hoping to add $60,000 to that running total by having two runs on the same weekend in different parts of the country.

Will You Help Us Reach Our Goal?

If you are able, please consider making a donation, however small, to support the run. Teams pay their own expenses, one hundred percent of your donation goes to the charity. To use a credit card, this link will take you to our sponsor, the Little British Car Company's, web site. You can make a donation of any amount safely and securely using a Mastercard or Visa. (Your donation is then processed by the charity and your credit card statement will reflect your donation having been made directly to the charity.) If you care to donate by check, for the Wisconsin run, please make it payable to "CBVIC" and mail it (along with a note explaining your donation is related to the run) to The Center for Blind and Visually Impaired Children, Inc., Attn: Vanessa Nerbun, 5600 W. Brown Deer Rd. Suite 4, Milwaukee, WI 53223. For the Ohio run, please make your check payable to "Adventures for Wish Kids" and mail it (along with a note explaining your donation is related to the run) to: Adventures for Wish Kids, Attn: Miranda Zink, 6863 Oak Creek Drive, Columbus, OH 43229. On receipt of your check, they will mail you a receipt for your donation. Thank you so much for your support!

A Word About Our Cars

I'll speak of Triumphs since that is the marque I am familiar with. Triumph production ceased in the early eighties, so the majority of cars will be over 25 years old. Despite the venerability of the vehicles, most get around with little difficulty and a typical drop out rate is just one or two vehicles per run. In last year's run, every car but one completed the run, and that one car broke down within ten miles of the finish! Perhaps this is not surprising as most cars are kept maintained to a high standard and have the benefit of being much easier to fix at the roadside than their modern counterparts.

Many thanks to John Macartney in England for his help during the planning of this event. He has organized many events of this sort and was a terrific resource I could call on whenever I had questions.
